Jonathan Standing Smith

Jonathan trained at the Leicester School of Architecture and subsequently gained wide experience with practices in Toronto and London before joining a national practice to be responsible for architectural work in the East Anglian region. He was involved with commercial and industrial projects throughout the country - retail work became an increasingly dominant sphere of interest. Subsequent to his becoming a Partner, his particular responsibilities became the design of large scale shopping schemes and specialist industrial buildings.

In 1984 he formed Jonathan Smith Associates and the practice subsequently reformed in 2000 as JS+P Architecture. He is now involved in a number of significant Mixed-use Urban Regeneration projects throughout the Country and has developed the affordable housing, city living and residential expertise in the Practice.

He is on The Court of Leicester University and has recently held positions as a Director of Leicester Promotions Ltd, a General Commissioner of Income Tax and a Trustee of a number of charitable trusts. He has also been an external examiner to Leicester and Nottingham University Schools of Architecture and a member of the Leicester Diocesan Board of Finance.
Nicholas Williams

Nic studied at the Birmingham School of Architecture and became a Corporate member of the RIBA in 1992. In 1994 he moved to the Far East and spent 5 years working in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

During two and a half years in Hong Kong he worked for a multi national development company working on a wide range of office developments and hotels in Hong Kong with values up to US$ 500 million all on urban ‘brownfield’ sites. He then moved on to Shanghai and acted as Developer’s Project Manager responsible for a construction management and design team for a US$125 million 5 star mixed use residential and hospitality and leisure project involving a range of international consultants and contractors from around the world.

Nic then spent a year based in the USA continuing to work on Far Eastern projects utilizing the latest technology for communications and remote working and management. Early in 2000 he re-joined JS+P Architecture. He has subsequently worked on a wide range of projects with particular attention on general commercial and regeneration schemes whilst maintaining his international links. His expertise in the regeneration field is substantial and he presently handles a large portfolio of varied projects throughout the country.
Kanti Chhapi

Kanti was awarded a Diploma in Architecture at the Leicester School of Architecture in 1980 and has had 28 years post graduate experience with multi-disciplinary practices in London and the Midlands, He has specialised particularly in the areas of competition design and has had regular involvement with projects with sensitive planning issues. Having worked with JS+P in the 80’s he rejoined the Practice as Design Director, bringing a wealth of experience and his considerable expertise.

Kanti is a past Chairman of the Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects Environment Committee, is a visiting tutor at De Montfort University and has regularly been invited onto the judging panel for National Design Awards, including AUDI Young Designer of the Year, RIBA East Midlands Architecture and Leicestershire ProCon Awards.

In addition, Kanti is a current member of the Conservation Advisory Panel to Leicester City Council Planning Department, which meets monthly to advise on planning applications related to Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings.

He is immediate Past President of the Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects.
Kenny Leadbeater

Kenny initially qualified as an Architectural Technologist in Guernsey. He then graduated from Kingston University with an Honours Degree, Bartlett - University College London with a Diploma in Architecture and De Montfort University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture. Kenny has strong design skills and project running abilities and has a solid grounding in several sectors after spending ten years in practice in London.

He has developed particular expertise in project co-ordination and management and has carried out a significant number of projects through from concept to completion. His built education experience includes a teaching annex to Beechwood College, Guernsey; Woodstone Primary School, Ravenstone; a church conversion into a school for Special Needs, and also industrial units, private residential, high end London apartments, social housing, restaurants and mixed use developments.

Kenny is currently delivering multi million pound residential and assisted living care schemes.
Justin Fox

Associate Director

Justin graduated from the University of Greenwich with an Honours Degree, and completed his professional qualifications at the University of Liverpool and the University of Central England, gaining his Post Graduate Diploma in 2006.

Registered as a Chartered Architect, Justin has been with JS+P since 2005, with a brief period away working in Dublin. His architectural career spans over 12 years, mostly working throughout his qualification period and gaining valuable practical training.

He has much experience and particular strengths in running multi-million pound retail and residential projects for private and corporate clients and has developed significant knowledge in delivering projects from inception to completion.

Justin has worked with retail clients such as Sainsburys, delivered large residential projects in England and Ireland, and is currently working on a diverse range of commercial developments throughout the U.K.
Jill Middleton Practice Manager


Jill gained qualifications in advanced business management at South Leicestershire College.

She subsequently worked for a large multi-disciplinary Practice in Leicester for many years and developed her management skills in the specific field of architecture.

Jill worked closely with Jonathan Smith during the original formation of Jonathan Smith and Partners, offering administration and business support as necessary - working full time with the Practice since 1995.

Jill is now part of the Management Team, working closely with all Directors in the daily running of the business. She has an involvement with the strategic forward planning, marketing and publicity, together with specific responsibilities for HR. JSP Exchange - the Company Extranet Service - is also administered by Jill on a daily basis together with the future development of this service.
